Mother Frances Streitel: thriving by the acceptance of a challenge

Amalia Frances Rose Streitel aka Mother Frances Streitel, Foundress of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother.  Yesterday we mentioned that Amalia, now known as Sister Angela in the Maria Stern community, was asked, as a postulant, to continue her studies in French and music and, when professed, assigned to teach, as she had already had a teaching certificate when she entered the order.  Obviously, this was not an easy assignment for her.  All of us, in any walk in life, come face to face with our cherished desires being denied. Sometimes, like Sister Angela, it is because others recognize our talent, know our educational background and our various skills and have the power to direct us to a ministry/a job that they perceive more in keeping with our background and giftedness. With prayer and dialogue we may come to realize that what is being asked of us is a good thing. We accept it. Make the best of it, are stretched and  thrive, as did Sister Angela, who excelled in every assignment given her.
